Switch

Make the switch, they say. It will be good for you. Switch it up. Try something new.

Think of all the things you might miss, or you stay that little bitch. Unthinking. Stuck in your ways.

Every now and then you should change the position, the direction, the focus…

…of your beliefs of others, and see what happens. You never know what you might learn, about yourself and those around you.

Embrace other’s point of view, like it may never affect you, which it won’t,

not unless you want it to.

You could learn something, you know, of how other people work, think, live.

Be generous, accepting, and open minded. I know it’s a mental shift, but it won’t hurt you, not even a little bit.

You can do it.

Switch.

Life comes at you fast, sometimes you have to grab on and go with it. You know, switch on the run, on the go, so to speak.

Embrace those people you have never embraced before. Forgive your enemies. Contact a friend you haven’t spoken to in some time.

Switch your thinking, if only for a time. Give it a go. You might even learn something.

“You know what I mean?”

“No, I can’t say that I do.”

“Seeing something from the other guy’s perspective, no matter how much you might disagree with them.”

“Really?”

“Sure.”

“You are a better man than I am, if you can do that.”

“It can be revelatory.”

“Sure, it can.”

“No, it can. You are being defeated before you even start.”

“If you disagree, you disagree, and if you totally disagree, then it is total.”

“No one is asking you to change your mind.”

“Good.”

“Still with the shutters down.”

“Okay then, go on.”

“If we could just put ourselves in the other person’s shoes, just for a milli second, maybe, at best come to a compromise, at worst agree to disagree, but have some kind of understanding.”

“Some kind of understanding?”

“Yes.”

“With someone with whom you disagree?”

“Yes.”

“Quite possibly disagree profoundly.”

“Yes, that is what I am saying.”

“Dream on…”

“Isn’t any idea of peace amongst men a dream?”

“What? No.”

“No?”

“No. It’s strength that is important.”

“It’s understanding that is important. Strength has never really got us anywhere.”

“Strength has got us everywhere.”

“Really? Where?”

“Respect.”

“Wars.”

“Wealth.”

“Inequality.”

“Power.”

“Poverty.”

“Strength.”

“Strength without understanding is so often cruelty.”

“It is the survival of the fittest.”

“Peace and harmony can only come through understanding each other.”

“It is survival.”

“That is what I am talking about, survival for everyone.”

“You are a dreamer.”

“You say that as if it is a bad thing?”
